This Privacy Policy explains what information trainlive.in (“TrainLive.in”, “we”, “us” or “our”), run by Pranab Singha, collects when you use the website, how we use it and the choices you have. You can use TrainLive.in without creating an account or telling us your name.
1. Information we collect
When you share a train’s location. If you are on a train and tap the button to share its position, your browser asks for permission to use your location. Only if you allow it, we receive the train number, your position (latitude and longitude), how accurate the GPS reading is and the time. We do not ask for your name, phone number or email. We keep only the last 10 updates for each train, and they are shown to other visitors without any personal details. We never ask for your location in the background or when you just browse.
Your connection’s IP address. When you share a location, we use your IP address only to stop too many updates from one connection. It is stored as a scrambled (one-way hashed) key for at most 1 hour and is not linked to the location you shared.
When you contact us. If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write. We use it only to reply to you.
Information saved on your device. The website remembers your recent searches (for example “Mumbai Central to New Delhi”) in your browser’s local storage so you can repeat them with one tap. This stays on your device and is not sent to us. You can clear it in your browser settings.
Photos for the travel image. If you use the feature that puts your photo on a travel image, the image is made in your browser. Your photo is not uploaded to our server.
Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical data such as IP address, browser type, pages visited and the time of the visit. These logs are used to keep the website secure and working, and are deleted after a limited time.
2. Cookies and advertising
TrainLive.in is free because it shows ads. We use Google AdSense to show them. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners show ads to you based on your visits to our site and other sites on the internet.
- You can turn off personalised ads in Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors’ cookies at www.aboutads.info.
- Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Where the law requires it, for example for visitors in the European Economic Area or the UK, we ask for your consent before ads use cookies.
3. Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the website, for example which pages are popular. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, your device and approximate location (city level). It does not tell us who you are. You can stop Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
4. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- show the live position of trains to all visitors
- keep the website working, secure and free from misuse
- improve our train information and the website
- reply to your messages
- show ads that keep the website free
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Sharing
We share information only with the services that run the website (our hosting provider, Google AdSense and Google Analytics), or when the law requires it. Train positions shared by passengers are shown on the website without any personal details.
6. How long we keep information
Shared train positions: the last 10 updates for each train. IP keys for limiting updates: up to 1 hour. Emails: as long as needed to answer you and keep a record of the conversation. Cookies: as set by the service that uses them, and you can delete them at any time in your browser.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it, and you can withdraw a consent you gave at any time. If you are in India, you have these rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you also have rights under the GDPR. To use your rights, write to [your email]. We answer within 30 days.
8. Children
TrainLive.in is a general travel information website and is not meant for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
The website uses a secure HTTPS connection, and we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. No website can be 100% secure, so we cannot promise complete security.
10. Links to other websites
Our pages and ads link to other websites. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. The date at the top shows the latest version. If we make important changes, we will show a notice on the website.
